The Process

HOW HYDROSEEDING WORKS

A liquid lawn spray of seed, fertiliser, and mulch — the same green lawn spray seed mix used by professionals nationwide — is sprayed directly onto prepared ground, giving superior seed-to-soil contact that hand seeding simply can't match.

01

Site Preparation

We assess the area, check drainage and slope, and ensure the ground is ready for application. Basic levelling advice included.

02

Slurry Mix

Seed, fertiliser, tackifier, and hydromulch are blended in our 1,200L tank into a perfectly balanced application mix.

03

Application

The slurry is pressure-sprayed in an even, consistent layer — reaching edges and awkward corners that turf rolls leave patchy.

04

Germination

The mulch layer retains moisture and protects seed. Germination begins within 7–14 days. A healthy, established lawn within 4–6 weeks.

Hydroseed vs Turf vs Seed

WHY NOT JUST LAY TURF?

Turf laying is expensive and labour-intensive, and hand seeding is slow and patchy. Here's how the three methods stack up honestly.

Hydroseeding Turf Laying Hand Seeding
Cost per m² From $4.50 $15–25+ $1–2
Even coverage ✓ Seamless Visible seams ✗ Patchy

The Advantages

BUILT FOR AUSSIE CONDITIONS

Hydroseeding gives seed the best possible start — better soil contact, better moisture retention, and an even, professional finish. It's a smart, cost-effective way to establish a new lawn across the Goulburn to Wollongong corridor.

🌱

Even, Seamless Coverage

The mulch binder locks seed evenly to the soil — no visible seams, no patchy edges, just a consistent, professional-looking lawn from edge to edge.

💧

Moisture Retention

The hydromulch layer acts as a blanket, significantly reducing watering needs during establishment compared to bare seed.

💰

Fraction of Turf Cost

At $4.50/m² versus $15–25/m² for turf laying, hydroseeding delivers the same lush result for a fraction of the investment.

🌾

Any Grass Variety

Choose the right grass for your soil, climate and use — not just what's available on pallets. Couch, kikuyu, fescue, buffalo blends and more.

🏡

New Builds & Acreage

Ideal for freshly graded blocks and larger residential yards, where covering the whole area with turf rolls quickly becomes impractical and expensive.

Fast to Establish

Germination typically begins within 7–14 days, with a healthy, established lawn in around 4–6 weeks — far quicker than sowing bare seed by hand.

☀️

Drought-Resistant Lawn Options

Because you're not limited to what's on the turf pallet, we can recommend genuinely drought-tolerant varieties like buffalo and zoysia — grasses bred to cope with low water and bounce back after dry spells.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

Here's what homeowners across the region have to say about working with us.

★★★★★

"Had quotes for turf at over $18,000 for our new block in Bowral. Hydroseeding came in at under $6,000 for a better result. Can't believe I hadn't heard of this before."

Mark T.
Bowral, NSW
★★★★★

"Our new build was left as bare dirt and quoting turf for the whole block was brutal. Shep hydroseeded the lot and within a few weeks we had a thick, even lawn coming through. Came in at a third the price of turf and looks fantastic."

Sarah M.
Goulburn, NSW
★★★★★

"New build in Appin — builder left us with bare dirt everywhere. Got hydroseeded in one morning. Grass was coming through by day 10. Couldn't be happier."

Common Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does hydroseeding actually work?

Yes — hydroseeding (also called spray seeding) has been used commercially and residentially across Australia for decades. The seed, fertiliser and mulch slurry gives seed-to-soil contact that's superior to hand seeding, and the mulch layer protects and retains moisture during germination. Most lawns show visible green growth within 7–14 days and are fully established within 4–6 weeks.

Is hydroseeding the same as spray seeding?

Yes — hydroseeding, spray seeding, and liquid lawn spray all refer to the same process: spraying a mix of seed, fertiliser and mulch directly onto prepared soil.

Can I get a drought-tolerant lawn with hydroseeding?

Absolutely. Because hydroseeding lets you choose your grass variety rather than being limited to what's available as turf, it's a great option if low water use matters to you. We can recommend a drought-tolerant blend suited to your soil, sun exposure and water access — no lawn is fully drought-proof, but some varieties handle dry spells far better than others.

How does hydroseeding compare to turf?

Hydroseeding delivers the same lush result as turf for a fraction of the cost, with better seed-to-soil contact than hand seeding and no visible seams. See our full comparison table above for the detail.
